Train your brain
for a positive birth experience
Working with pregnant women, I’ve seen apps for everything pregnancy related. Truth be told, the only thing most of these apps do is breed anxiety – about how much you’re exercising or not, how well you’re eating, how much you should or shouldn’t be growing, about what colour your pee should be. Oh, for the love of Pete… If I could get these app developers into a room, I would unleash the wrath. These apps can truly be the bane of a prenatal care provider’s existence, causing women to trust generalized formulas more than their own instincts and common sense. They are whittling away at women’s confidence in themselves. I have secret desires to spill my tea on smartphones that reduce all the smart, strong women I know into anxious screen-tappers.
But this… This app might be my new favourite thing. GentleBirth helps you focus on you. Not your diet, your step-count, or the number of kicks you feel from the inside, but on your mental and emotional wellness. In fact, shifting focus to this inner wellness is the ONE SINGLE thing I would pick that can put women on the right path to a positive birth experience.
The app offers daily ‘brain training’, short meditations, affirmations, and access to the GentleBirth guidebook. It uses the all the things: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Sports Psychology, Hypnobirthing, and Mindfulness to get you in shape in the most important way. I’m not even pregnant and it’s still my love.
